Holidays on the Coats Calida

Sightseeing - The Southern Costa Calida
The southern Costa Calida has a diverse coastline from rugged cliffs to wide sandy beaches.

South of Cartagena the coastline is very rugged indeed and access to this area is quite difficuly it is only when one reaches La Azohia Cove that we see large expanses of beach. La Azohia cove is a small fishing village that used to rely on tuna fishing. Now due to the clarity of the waters it is a base for divers. It is a quiet, beautiful spot nestled beneath the hills with views south along the coast.

Further south we pass the small beaches of Isla Plana before we arrive at Puerto Mazarron. A lot of money is being spent in this area with a new marina and promenades. There are 2 large sandy beaches baxcked by a bustling small fishing town. Just below Puerto Mazarron is found the large beach at Bolnuevo, which is one of the best. To the rear of the beach are a collection of strangely shaped rocks (formed by wind) that are a local landmark. A rock festival (no pun intended) is held every year on the flat area of land in front of these natural features.

At the southernmost part of the Costa Calida are Calabardina and Aguilas. Calabardina is a sleepy small resort village with two large sandy beaches. Alongside the village is Cabo Cope, a large headland and natural park. Surrounding Cabo Cope is a protected marine preserve which is popular with scuba divers. Just below Calabardina is Aguilas which is on the border of Murcia and at the southern end of the Costa Calida. Aguilas is a resort town that is busy year round. It has 2 large sandy beaches, a marina and large fishing harbour. There is a beautiful promenade several kilometers long on both beaches.
