The Villages of the Mar Menor
The villages around the Mar Menor date back to pre- Roman times and in fact, it was the Romans who set up the salt industry in this area. They also discovered the benefits of the therapeutic clays which can be found in various parts of the Mar Menor as a result of the many hours of sunshine and the high salinity of the waters. The therapeutic clays are beneficial for many skin complaints, as well as rheumatism and arthritis etc.
There are many harbours and marinas around the Mar Menor offering a variety of local fish restaurants, international sailing clubs, scuba diving and nautical clubs. They are also great places to just relax and watch the boats come and go.
The region is also a favourite for those wishing to party throughout the summer as each little village holds its own Fiesta and the fun continues though to the evenings with fireworks, bands, fun fairs, traditional costumes, horses and wine, a great combination!
There is something for everyone, so once you have discovered this beautiful part of Spain, you will want to return. |
